Trayvon Martin

Hi students,

Here at EACPA, students wear uniforms.  One of the arguments for wearing uniforms is to reduce distractions in the classroom, and ensure that no one is discriminated against because of what they are wearing.

Discrimination is when a person is excluded or prejudiced (pre-judged) based on his or her membership or perceived membership of a group.  For example, somebody may hear someone speak with a Spanish accent and think that they do not know how to speak English.  Or, someone may see a someone with a lot of tattoos and think they are a criminal or a member of a gang.

Earlier this year, there was a tragic event that occurred based on this idea of discrimination.  A 17 year-old Black male named Trayvon Martin walked to the gas station to get some candy and a drink, and was shot by someone on the way home because he was wearing a hoodie and looked "dangerous".

In the comments section, tell me if you have heard about the Trayvon Martin case.  If you have, what do you know about it?  If you have not, what do you want to know about it?

    I have not heard of Trayvon Martin And I want to know why that person that shot Trayvon had a gun on them

      I have heard of Trayvon Martin. I know that a man shot Trayvon when he was walking he shot him probably because he was wearing a hoodie and baggy pants but he has skittles and tea.

    Trayvon Martin got shot for pulling out his skittles and gatorade and the neighbor hood watch thought he was a bad person...He was wearing a hoodie and sweats.

    Yes i have heard about Trayvon Martin and he was walking with a bag of skittles, and an Icee, with his hoodie on. What i want to know is why did the guy that shot him, shot him.
